School of Ministry
BGU (HK) offers two key ministry and theological programs of DMin and MTS and the new MAGUM degree:
Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Transformational Leadership for the Global City. It is a ministry degree program designed to enhance the leadership skills of individuals engaged in some aspect of Christian ministry. The degree program is appropriate for pastors, para-church leaders, urban ministry leaders and administrators. The DMin is distinct from the PhD or ThD in that its primary focus is the practical aspects of ministry rather than preparing the participant for research or teaching in purely academic arenas. However, in recent years, some seminary educators have chosen the DMin degree to enhance their ability to provide training relevant to practical issues in Christian ministry.
"I pursue a D.Min. in order to update research on Urban Mission which is related to my mission work in China and my teaching ministry in Seminary. I choose BGU as I want to learn from Dr. Ray Bakke who has global experience in large cities. The most helpful course I learned was empowering leaders through coaching; and I am applying the principles in the training ministry in China with enthusiastic responses". DMin Candidate, Seminary Lecturer & Missions Leader
Master of Theological Studies (MTS) is recognized to enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals engaged in some aspect of Christian ministry. The program provides a broad foundation in biblical, theological and historical studies. The MTS degree also addresses global and urban perspective and allows each student to focus in areas of specialization. The MTS offers different areas of specialization, like: Justice, Poverty and Ministry in Hong Kong, Community Development in Hong Kong.
Master of Arts in Global Urban Ministry (MAGUM) degree provides a way for men and women, from a variety of cultural, organizational, vocational, and individual backgrounds to receive a master's degree in the field of Global Urban Ministry. The program includes a strong theological core of courses, perspective changing international and urban experiences, an urban study concentration around the themes of Relief, Development and Advocacy, culminating with a thesis or philosophy of ministry project to apply to one's own ministry context. The MAGUM is an opportunity to join an adventure of life-long learning with BGU's committed, experienced faculty and staff, complemented by your own mentors and support people to guide you along the way.
