BGU (US) was founded in 2000 at Seattle under his leadership and developed rapidly within a few years. The courses are well-received and popular in American's Christianity circle, in particular the Doctor of Ministry program is highly regarded by seminary students in North America.
Since the establishment of BGU(HK) in Hong Kong at early 2006, we have inherited BGU(US)'s spirit of education to equip leaders for churches in Hong Kong and China. Majority of our students are enrolled in Hong Kong, there are more church leaders in China starting to study our DMin program in the next academic year. BGU(HK) welcome the applicants from Asian and the third world church leaders. The future development of our university will be more internationalized. We have the privileged advantage to have most of the experienced theological educators from US and coupled with local renowned scholars. We strongly believed that students are well equipped by attending lectures by these scholars.
Bakke Graduate University (Hong Kong) is positioned in Hong Kong as an inter-cultural, global graduate school with mission to equip leaders who are involved with urban ministries. They are leaders from local churches, para-churches, different professions and community, through our in-depth training in respond to the imminent changes to society by globalization. The theological, historical foundations of our students are strengthened through BGU's training. The skills required in urban ministry are enhanced with appropriate training. They will then effectively evangelize to different groups of people living in the community, providing pastoral care to those unprivileged and professional people. We strongly address the needs of these people as reflected in the contents and design of our curriculum.
Another characteristic of BGU's course is the emphasis on application and interaction. Urban missional networks are established through the students' mutual interaction. By getting involved in field trip experience to global cities, such as New York, Chicago, India, Manila and Middle East countries, students have the opportunities to meet with local communities, to personally experienced various urban missional models. Being able to get out of the classroom and with first hand application of the theory of mission, to expand one's horizon and strengthen the worldview of mission. This kind of training is key aspect of our ministry education. The founder of Bakke Graduate University (US) is Dr. Ray Bakke, who possess rich experience on urban mission and is honored as "Father of Contemporary Urban Mission".
